Ezra
Ezra leads the people in repentance

Crisis

The Lord commissioned Ezra to return to Jerusalem and rebuild the temple, but the journey was dangerous and they had no means of protecting themselves. Ezra had faith that the Lord would protect them on their mission.

Response

Faced with imminent danger, Ezra called for a three-day solemn assembly by the Ahava River. He led God's people to humble themselves, fast, and seek the Lord for His safety and guidance.

Outcome

The hand of God rested on them and protected them from their enemies and bandits on the way.

“. . . The hand of our God is upon all those for good who seek Him, but His power and His wrath are against all those who forsake Him. So we fasted and entreated our God for this, and He answered our prayer.”
