Messenger: Asa
Focus: The People of Judah
Time Period: 910–869 BC

Asa
Azariah Prophesying

Crisis

God had withdrawn His presence from Israel. They were without a priest to teach and without the law. As a result, the people were unable to live in peace and their safety was constantly threatened. The Spirit of God came upon Azariah and he prophesied to King Asa, "If you seek Him, He will be found by you, but if you forsake Him, He will forsake you."

Response

Asa took courage and puts away the idols from all the land and he repaired the altar of the Lord. He then called a solemn assembly in Jerusalem where the people entered into a covenant to seek the Lord God of their fathers.

Outcome

The Lord gave them rest from their enemies on every side.

“Then he gathered all Judah and Benjamin, and those who dwelt with them from Ephraim, Manasseh, and Simeon, for they came over to him in great numbers from Israel when they saw that the LORD his God was with him. So they gathered together at Jerusalem in the third month, in the fifteenth year of the reign of Asa . . . . Then they entered into a covenant to seek the LORD God of their fathers with all their heart and with all their soul.”
