Rumble at the Lincoln Memorial with Lou Engle August 12, 2008.
At dusk on August 12, Lou spoke to a small gathering on the lawn near the Lincoln Memorial. Gathered were young adults from the Justice House of Prayer (JHOP) in Washington DC, San Diego, and Austin, college-aged interns from the Luke18Project and the International House of Prayer in Kansas City, teenagers from the Awakening Teen Camp, TheCall logistics team and staff, and Youth WIth a Mission volunteers.
Lou read from the "I have a Dream" speech of Martin Luther King Jr. who spoke on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial on August 28, 1963 along with quoting the famous words of Lincoln's second Inaugural Address,
"Fondly do we hope, fervently do we pray, that this mighty scourge of war may speedily pass away. Yet, if God wills that it continue until all the wealth piled by the bondsman's two hundred and fifty years of unrequited toil shall be sunk, and until every drop of blood drawn with the lash shall be paid by another drawn with the sword, as was said three thousand years ago, so still it must be said 'the judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether."
This "rumble" closed in prayer as this gathering lifted their voices to the Lord to pray for the ending of abortion stretching out their hands over the National Mall, where on Saturday August 16, thousands will gather in TheCall DC, and closed with the singing of "Nothing but the blood of Jesus." As the crowd thinned, young adults filtered through the historic Lincoln Memorial quietly praying to the Lord:
"Make me a voice for justice like Lincoln and Martin Luther King Jr."
